GREAT for Kids,
Adults, & the Whole Family
At Makowski’s ATA Martial Arts Academy, we are interested in the
complete personal development of each student. Individual attention is
a feature of every class, allowing all students to progress quickly and
confidently toward their personal goals. Our instructors take their responsibility
seriously as role models for younger students, teaching them the importance
of strong character, leadership and good values. The teaching curriculum
is based on two concepts: "positive mental attitude" and "high
goal setting.
ATA’s belts reflect a member's proven level of competence and the
progression of colors reflect an inner journey that never truly ends.
Each belt achieved is an accomplishment worthy of respect. To achieve
their next rank, a student must demonstrate their proficiency in their
current belt's techniques and advancing requirements.
Over the years, the ATA has come to realize that there are many reasons
for studying taekwondo, and we have worked hard to develop programs for
every member of the family and age group that will help realize these
goals. We feature:
- A flexible schedule
- Open six days a week
- Classes for tots, kids, teens, adults, and families
- Separate classes by age and ability
Our fitness program is a head-to-toe, full-body workout that combines
kicking, punching, aerobics, and the development of mental skills. At
the beginning level, it emphasizes simple body movements that allow people
of all ages and fitness levels to get in shape and to learn self-defense.
Physical Fitness
Workouts are varied to focus on different body parts and skill levels.
Beginning at the basic level through more advanced belt ranks, training
will include strength building and cardio-exercises, and gentle stretching
to increase flexibility, avoid post-workout muscle soreness, and to complete
a stress-relieving workout.
Awareness
Students learn and practice techniques that are specific to their skill
level. Progressive training is incorporated to vary workouts and to continually
improve the student’s abilities. Students learn sequences of techniques
called “forms” or “patterns” and practical self-defense
techniques for their skill-levels that must be demonstrated to the instructors’
satisfaction before moving on in their training. Learning and being able
to appropriately use these techniques will require memorization skills,
along with the ability to mentally process situations and to react to
them appropriately.
Confidence
For each level of training that the student accomplishes some form of
reward is given that the student wears as part of their uniform. The most
recognizable of these markings is the color of their belt. This reward
and recognition represents the foundation of the training system; goal
setting and personal victories that come from accomplishing these objectives.
Each success is rewarded, providing increased confidence in their training
and personal lives.
Self-defense
Taekwondo is an exciting and powerful martial art that is known for dynamic
kicking and hand techniques. Although the fundamentals of taekwondo are
centuries old, ATA programs are always evolving to keep pace with the
rapidly changing world. Taekwondo is the baseline style that we provide.
It offers excellent conditioning, fitness, and sport activity. We compliment
that training with a blend of martial arts styles and military hand-to-hand
training to deliver a combat street self-defense system that is easy to
learn, powerful, and works for persons of any age or gender.
Our instructors know that each student possesses different physical abilities.
We will work with you to develop strong basic techniques that will enhance
your physical abilities and maximize your self-defense skills at every
level of training.
